Description
Legend tells of an ancient Guanche princess who hurled herself off this mountain on learning that her beloved had died in the battle of Aguere. The princess was called Guajara and her name was given to the mountain that is home to this hiking trail through Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Put on some suitable footwear, get ready for an adventure and set off on a 12-km trail that takes approximately 5 to 6 hours to complete (depending on your pace) and includes absolutely everything. Your guide will be with you at all times and tell you all about the landscape, plant life, volcanoes and history. About everything that makes this wonderful route on Guajara mountain one of the most magnificent trails in the National Park.
And on reaching the summit of Alto de Guajara, you’ll be met by 360⁰ views and the chance to enjoy Mount Teide in all its splendour: the peak, the ancient Pico Viejo volcano, Roques de García, the south of the island, the solar observatory and, if the weather permits, a sensational view of the islands of La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and Gran Canaria in the distance.
If you love hiking through nature, discovering the most unusual plants that grow on an island of wild and unspoilt features and learning fascinating facts that connect this mountain to the history of astronomy, then the Guajara hiking trail is for you.
