You should be prepared for extremes in weather, both heat as well as cold, depending on the time of year in which you use your Tenerife cable car tickets.
Our recommendations:
- Wear warm clothing and proper footwear.
- Protect yourself from sunstroke.
- Due to the elevated luminosity, wear sunglasses.
- Take plenty of water on hikes.
If you are planning to descend on foot and hold an ascent-only ticket, please note that as of 29 November 2024, you must obtain a permit to descend on foot via one of the trails that require it: PNT 07 Montaña Blanca - La Rambleta, PNT 09 Teide - Pico Viejo - Mirador de las Narices del Teide, PNT 23 Regatones Negros, PNT 28 Chafarí. This can be carried out through TenerifeON. Failure to present the required permit will result in being denied access to the ascent-only service. You must also take into account the mandatory equipment required by the Island Council’s Natural Environment, Sustainability, Safety and Emergencies Department. Users, hikers and mountaineers are required to carry a minimum set of essential equipment, including appropriate footwear and warm clothing. This is in addition to other necessary basic items for potential risk situations in winter conditions on mountains at high altitude: suitable mountain footwear, warm clothes, a thermal blanket, water, a mobile phone with a charged battery and a headlamp or torch.
Teide Cable Car is located within a fragile and protected national park. Therefore we must follow a series of basic rules of civic behaviour and respect of the natural environment, such as not littering or taking rocks, plants or animals. Please remember that it is prohibited to make fire, make loud noises, stray from the signposted paths, feed the animals, or to camp.
Up to 3 date changes within a maximum of 1 year are permitted. You can change the time or date, or cancel your ticket free of charge until 6.00pm on the day prior to the reserved date. Once this period has elapsed, or if the reservation is made after 6.00pm on the previous day, changes will not be accepted, and in the event of a cancellation, customers will be charged the full cost of the booking. Check our Terms and conditions for information on other reasons for cancellation.
All changes and cancellations of Cable Car tickets can be made comfortably via our booking management module.
Since the operation of the Cable Car is subject to the changing weather (wind speed, temperature, etc.), on occasions, the estimated boarding time may be delayed. If the closure of the facilities due to adverse weather conditions or technical reasons causes a delay of at least 90 minutes in relation to the booked time, the full refund of the amount may be requested free of charge provided that the tickets have not been used.
The base station
The Teide Cable Car Visitor’s Centre, which is at the cable car base station, is perfectly accessible by road and is located at an altitude of 2,356 m.
Its modern facilities are equipped with two cabins that travel to the top in under 8 minutes and can hold a maximum of 44 passengers, although for the comfort of our customers, we usually do not take more than 35 people on board.
The views from the base station allow you to behold the spectacular peaks surrounding the Teide volcano.
The base station offers facilities specially designed to make your visit enjoyable: the “Science and Legend” exhibition, an official souvenir shop and a restaurant-cafeteria with a wide range of cuisine and panoramic views of the National Park. This is also the perfect place to find out about the different routes and trails you can do from the upper station.
The upper station
The Teide Cable Car upper station is the starting point of three spectacular trails at the summit of Mount Teide, which are directly accessible from a small hall from where you can walk outside. It has Wi-Fi and toilets.
Although there is not a café in the upper station, you will have vending machines at your disposal with drinks and non-perishable food such as snacks.
We recommend that you come prepared for all weather conditions since the upper station is at an altitude of 3,555 m.
Parking
Avoid the car. Choose collective transportation. It is important that together we do what we can to counteract overuse of the vehicle parking areas in the National Park. As a conservation measure, they have been kept to a small size, and they cannot be extended. If you finally decide to arrive by car, please do so after 1.00pm.
The Cable Car base station has a car park with 220 spaces. You can check the car park opening and closing times here.
Outside its opening hours, the car park is closed and the entry and exit of vehicles is not allowed.
Shops
The Teide Cable Car Visitors’ Centre facilities, located at the cable car base station, include an information centre and an official souvenir shop.
Restaurant / Café
At the Visitors’ Centre you will find our café and restaurant facility with spectacular views of the Teide National Park. The restaurant offers a wide range of cuisine, with the emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.
Toilets
There are toilets at both the base station and the upper station, which remain open during the opening hours of the facilities.

FAQs
Yes. You must show up at the boarding area with your purchase confirmation, either printed or displayed on your mobile phone, 20 minutes prior to the time specified on your ticket in order to redeem it and access the boarding area to board the cabin.
On tickets for the ascent and descent, only the ascent time is reserved. The descent session is not reserved. So, once you have reached the limit of your time at the upper station, all you need to do to make the descent as included in your return ticket, is to join the queue for the descent, and descend in order of arrival.
If your question relates to your ticket for descent only, because you intend to make the ascent to the peak of Mount Teide on foot, in accordance with the new regulation relating to permission for access to trails PNT 7+11 “Montaña Blanca – Mirador de la Fortaleza – La Rambleta”, PNT 9 “Teide – Pico Viejo – Mirador de Las Narices del Teide” and PNT 23 “Los Regatones Negros”, as well as the section of Trail 28 (Chafarí), and in accordance with the measures implemented by the Island Council Office for the Natural Environment, Sustainability, Safety and Emergencies, a ticket for descent only can be booked once at the upper station using QR codes, and providing that the cable car is in operation. That is why it is essential to allow for the possibility that, due to adverse weather conditions, technical issues or other problems caused by force majeure, the cable car cannot operate, making it necessary to make the descent on foot, at a price of €23. If you would like to pay in cash, you can buy/purchase your descent tickets at the cable car station before making the ascent on foot.
Cable car tickets can only be used for the booked time and cabin given on the ticket. Boarding begins 20 minutes beforehand, so please head to the boarding zone with your ticket 20 minutes in advance. In the event that you do not arrive on time for your booking and cabin, you will lose your right to board. Remember that you can change the date of your reservation or cancel it free of charge until 6.00pm on the day prior to your booking by going to Manage your booking
Reviews about Volcano Teide cable car
Entrance management was fine
PNT10 trail is closed due to weather conditions which is fine but we realized on top of the hill that there was still possiility to go there with licence and equipment, why this information is not availale on official web ? Why this information is not shared ? We have the licence and there was possiilty to rent the equipment but NO INFORMATION !!! this is big desatisfaction if profi team is not able to go up just due to lack of information. We asked upfront in infocenters and they always reffered to website information not having details. Big big desatisfaction how the communication is handled, we missed the peak. We took only PNT23+PNT09 which was well prepared and beautifull.
Fabulous
A must to visit.
Superbe view!
Great trip, drive up is nice and safe with amazing switch back roads and wonderful views
Wonderfull
The experience was wonderful. The top was closed for further observations, however it was still beautiful. The café downstairs is also very beautiful and has a panoramic view
amazing!!!!!
Experience
Stunning views
Must visit
It was organized reálly well and the trip was beautiful
The national park's organization is very good, and the staff is very professional.
I have already explained the issue.
OK
Great experience
Nice place, beautiful view
Please observe that the price for the cable car is ONLY ONE WAY
all great
I think it's better to do different walks in front of the Teide. It's a very expensive activity and not well organized
Tho pices of snow and no hike, ***, Money theft, an no more than that. Al the cable car experiece is to drow money no more. Not recomended.
Refusal to refund cancelled visit due to illness and despite rebooking 2 days later.
Excelent.
all was ok
Was well planned and caring service, unfortunately some miscommunication caused a loss of money.
Great customer service by the man who managed the queues in the morning of 13th February. Thank you!
We managed to climb Teide for the third time. In 2023 and 2024, our reservation was cancelled due to high winds and we got our deposit back. The reservation was simple, clear and fast in each case.
Everything was great!
Everything is excellent organized, staff very friendly and ready to help
Great experience
Great trip. Slick and professional and friendly and interesting
Appreciate the time saving by getting tickets online
Beautiful and mesmerising view cannot miss it
Good experience
Maybe I would work more on better user experience of the web by pinning the standard cable car ticket availability at the very top, following by all other options.
Great experience , efficient polite staff .

We were very satisfied with our visit. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The guide was amazing—both kind and entertaining. It was a fantastic experience, and we would highly recommend it to others!
Buy tickets online
avoid long ques not worth the extra money
Guillermo was an excellent guide and we enjoyed his tour very much.
Great expiratio, the guide was smart and helpful
The experience is amazing, however the guided tour to pico viejo isn't worth it It's possible to do the tour by yourself
Stay at the bottom. The time and price is not a good valuef v.s. experience.
In summary, the Mount Teide cable car system is efficient, timely, and a great way to experience the stunning views. But the experience could be improved with clearer health warnings and stronger emphasis on preparation. Visitors should come well-prepared, both physically and mentally, for the altitude and weather at the summit.
Everything was perfect, it’s good that people need to register for the lift to avoid queuing. The only unpleasant expreience we had was with a guard. We stood on a small stone ‘terrace’, which looked like part of the path. She told us in a very unfreindly way that we were standing out of the path and ordered us to go back to the lift not letting us walk on the path in the other direction.
👍
Everything was ok
all went perfectly. Good organisational
Overal experience was amazing but some of the advertised trails were closed when we arrived up top. Also for ascending the peak you also have to pay extra....
I was charged for 2 extra tickets I didn't buy
We get there in time, we did not need to wait long for boarding.
The air is very tin so take your time.
We enjoyed the visit to the cable car as a family with a 10 year old. We did not feel pre-warned that we needed to download the app on the phone and 260Mb of data before driving there so we missed out on the commentary we had paid for because we couldn't download fast enough before our booking time. The signposts and information could be better on the top of the cable car but the two walks either way from the top are just 1 km each and can be done by anyone with stout footwear. We are glad we visited. We took coats on holiday with us just for that day and though my daughter needed hers I did not. It was a sunny day in April and windy at about 15 degrees.
Cable car was very very crowded
No comment
Was fun. Although we were told we could only stay 1 hour in the upper station, it took us more than that to walk to both viewpoints.
Everything was great
The sky looked beautiful
Hello. You ruined my mojo for yesterday. In case you don't know, people expect Teide to be THE experience on the island. We were not aware we need to book over the web days in advance, otherwise we would of done it (lesson learned rest assured). You seem to put the reservation process in front of your scope -- that is to bring being people up/down the volcano. The staff at the cablecar were friendly and told me to go online, on the spot, i tried but there was no place availability for the day/coming days. They said they're sorry but cannot do anything. Yet, we were there witnessing how cable cars go up less than mid capacity instead of "no availability". It was around 10:30AM. This was frustrating not only for us, there were other people there at your location trying to get tickets that were not available and it was easy for everyone to observe there is availability as people were not showing up. We waited there for about an hour, nobody cared, left in disappointment. My wife kept hunting for any opportunities, and at some point we managed to get the sunset ride that appeared available (11+ tickets for 17:45) about lunch time -- double the cost, whatever. As we finished hikeing Garcia Rocks we headed back to the cable car. (Around 3:30PM) The exact same story, nobody cared. A lot of people not showing up, a lot of people being rejected due to unavailability, cablecars going up almost empty in some cases. The bitter taste of your customer management will stay forever and although the sunset tour was nice i will always remember how you ruin every unfortunate tourist day for no reason, just to maintain a reservation system that is far from being efficient and not flexible at all. It is the perfect failure of process over scope. We also heard about other bad practices like no refunds for people late more than 20min. I can relate to some point but since our tour started 18:20+ instead of 17:45, that would entitle us for a refund right? Kidding. ;)
10/10
Fantastic tour!!! Amazing
We bought two tickets for the volcano sunset tour, which we wanted to return, which according to the website, is possible until 6 pm the day before. We were three minutes late due to a bad internet connection, but the system allowed and accepted the redemption, however, citing the expired deadline, they do not want to refund the money. In the end, we bought two new tickets for this program, which started at 18:10 instead of the announced 17:30 departure, and instead of the promised two hours, it was just over an hour, including the lift time.
Poor & disappointing. Not good value for money.
Would have been better if we could have gone to the end of the trail for the sunset
The guide was amazing. The top of the volcano itself is incredibly beautiful
nice view (+) tour shorter than anounced (-)
It was amazing and unbelievable
Very nice experience
We loved the sunset but for us its not a real tour and for just the cablecar tickets €*** is a little too expensive. Plus the group was too big for our taste. Other than that we enjoyed the views.
Breathtaking views! One of the loveliest sunsets I've been lucky to witness. Our guide, *** (for French & German), was very friendly and funny. I'd definitely recommend catching either the sunset or the sunrise from there. It's quite windy and it gets cold pretty quickly, so bring a jumper and a jacket and even gloves, if you intend to take a lot of pictures (you will). My only problem with the location is that the toilets are closed by the time the people with sunset tickets arrive and by the time they open again, too many people are waiting in line and there's not much time left until the tour starts. If you didn't book the star gazing tour, there are quite a few parking spots around that are still dark enough so you can park your car and do your own stargazing, albeit without tue equipment.
We did the sunset tour. An absolutely brilliant experience led by the wonderfully knowledgable ***. I can highly recommend this, we will definitely do this again.
Meeting time was 17:15, start was a hour letter. It like to long 😒
It is definetely worth it to go there and see vulcano view
Well it was such a great privilige to be able to see and participate on this adventure loved it.staff were friendly and helpfull with any questions i had to ask polite and well mannered.very happy indeed no complaints at all.
Very enjoyable with excellent driver and guide. Destination , Teide mountain was beautiful.
.Well worth the experience if you follow the guidelines with dress and appropriate hiking boots.
Très bien organisé depuis le départ de l'hôtel. Le parcours est bien pensé, il n'y a qu'à savourer
Good session. My other half was ill (food poisoning) on the day so we didn’t do much more than the cable car to the top but it looked amazing.
We had Sandra as guide for the activity and she was great ! Would totally recommend her.
Enjoyed it very much
Outstanding trip. Breathtaking views
The tour was wonderful! We were lucky to have blue skies and a great tour guide, Ari whose English was lovely! Mount Teide was incredible and the tour was professional and enabled us to see the highlights of the national park with a passionate guide.
Easy to find pickup location. With a knowledgeable, funny, guide, and comfortable driver
Excellent value for money and extremely enjoyable
my wife bought a t-shirt with the blues bird on it, quality/price raito ok
Nice half day out to the mountains.
Everything was great, very professional
Great day out
........
We had a lovely trip to Teide. The small coach was perfect for the trip and Maria our guide was very knowledgeable, imparting lots of helpful geological information as well as covering some of the background to the myths and legends of the island. Sadly the cable car was cancelled due to high winds, but a refund for this was swiftly processed. For us, this was not a problem at all, as we got to explore more of the interesting sights on the slopes of Teide, with a chance to have a bit of a walk at each of the stops, and a chance to look at interesting flora and fauna. Ironically, the stop at Teide base station was the shortest part of the trip, as we only had just enough time to order and eat lunch from the lovely cafe, and then buy a gift from the shop before getting back on to the coach. The last part of the tour was a bit of a boneshaker, as we descended back down to the coast via a different route, which involved a lot of speed bumps! It meant we got to see a lot more areas away from the motorway, but being last off the coach made for a longer journey with less to see as time went by. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Very interesting trip. Extremely good value for money. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip, the pick up was from Los Abrigos, put your address into the "comments" and then there is a conformation the day before for a time. The coach was spotlessly clean and comfortable, the driver was kind and considerate. Our first stop was at Vilaflor, lovely place. I'd like to explore that area now. Then up to El Teide, what a place! Actually above the clouds. The formations, colours were amazing. The cable car to the summit was a right treat to the senses. If you get a chance to go, do it. Brilliant day out.
Great trip. Would definitely recommend.
Great trip, nice and detailed information about the island and the volcano-mountain on our way to it. Only thing I would change - having bigger tour logos on the buses as the pick-up location had many buses for different tours and there was nearly always at least 3 different buses at the stop picking people up for different tours..
N/A
.Guide and tour was perfect. Only the 2 hours were not enough to get up with cable car, take one of these pathes (11 or 12) and get down. Time should be at least 2,5 or 3 hours. Thanks a lot!
An amazing trip to Teide volcano and national park!
Highly recommend this trip
TLDR: Take the car if you can. The tour duration is 7h, four of which is spent to pick up people from all over the island and only three is dedicated to the trip itself. Pick up location was far from the hotel we chose on the website. The duration of the stops were very short, barely enough to take pictures / enjoy the views. The time on the mountain itself is very limited, not enough to do anything besides go up and down, which means additional activities that you pay for - museum and cafe come at expense of the mountain time. The guide is limited to bus, no information is provided on the mountain itself, you are left with the mobile app that does not work well. Overall I’d rate the experience as unsatisfactory and would not recommend the guided tour unless you have no rental car. Take the car and go by yourself.
If you have to settle for not reaching the top this trip is good.
Highly recom
The day of the excursion was very windy, so the cable car was out of order. I was told that I would be refunded the amount I paid for the cable car on the same day or the next day, but five days later, I still haven't received anything. Overall, I would say the excursion is a bit pricey, but the guide was very nice and shared interesting facts about the Canary Islands.
What a fantastic day trip! Great value for money. Our amazing guide gave the tour in 3 languages! Very impressive! She was very knowledgeable and interesting with her facts about everywhere we visited. The stops were amazing and trying a local coffee with sweet cream was delicious! Teide was breath taking and the cable car was exciting! Definately recommend the tour to anyone who loves history and natural wonders with a fantastic tour guide and talented bus driver, ***. Thank you all for the memories xx
If you have vertigo or have breathing issues stay away .
Description of the ticket
Go up Mount Teide by Cable Car
Enjoy the quickest way to go up Mount Teide.
When you get off the cable car, you will be at an altitude of 3,555 m, and will have various choices on how to take in the stunning views of the largest national park in the Canary Islands.
Choose the viewpoint of La Rambleta to behold the views of the Siete Cañadas and the Ucanca Valley. From here, you can just imagine the enormous size of the old volcano that stood atop the island 150,000 years ago, and which was known as the Cañadas edifice, at a time when Mount Teide did not yet exist. In front of you stretches the Las Cañadas cirque, which has its highest point on Montaña Guajara. These are the remains of a great volcano whose own weight caused it to slide towards the northern coast in no more than a few minutes.
Its remains, millions of tons of volcanic rock, lie scattered over hundreds of kilometres in the depths of the ocean. In the huge tunnel left by the collapse of the volcano, new eruptions began immediately, and began to fill it. One of these eruptions was the origin of Mount Teide.
Over a long period of time, eruption followed eruption, forming the huge volcano from which you are now looking out at the surrounding landscape.
If you prefer to gaze at spectacular views of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma with an impressive crater at your feet, (which once upon a time was a lake of lava), choose the path to the Pico Viejo Viewpoint, another colossal volcano over 3,000 m high, the second highest peak in the archipelago, crowned by a crater 800 m in diameter. Pico Viejo forms part of the same volcanic edifice as Mount Teide, and at its base lie the Narices del Teide [literally: the nostrils of Mount Teide], the two mouths of historic eruptions, including the last one recorded within the bounds of the National Park.
You can take this tour of great scenic and volcanic interest with a guide, by booking the guided tour to the Pico Viejo viewpoint with a cable car ticket included.
Choose the La Fortaleza trail if you’d like to enjoy fantastic views of northern Tenerife: the outstanding valley of La Orotava, with Puerto de la Cruz on the ocean shore, although for most of the year, the valley is shrouded in clouds borne by the trade winds from the north east. As they collide with the island’s northern slopes, these winds rise up, and the moisture carried along by them condenses, until it forms a spectacular sea of cloud, which is vital to sustain Tenerife’s forests. You may also like to take this trail if you want to make your descent via Montaña Blanca.
And if you are one of those people who won’t leave Tenerife without having reached the summit of Mt. Teide, choose the Telesforo Bravo trail to the peak of Teide and shout ‘I am the King of the world’ from an altitude of 3 718 m.
But remember that for the trail that leads to the crater, you will need a special free permit, issued by administration of the Teide National Park, which you must apply for months in advance. Would you like a guide for this option? Read all the information on our ascent to the peak with a cable car ticket.

The audio guide included in this ticket is actually a full audio-guided tour of Teide National Park.
The Teide Legend audio guide included with your cable car + audio guide ticket is an audio-guided tour to Mount Teide. It reveals the natural and cultural heritage of Tenerife and different points of interest in Teide National Park, depending on the access road you take to reach our facilities.
This audio-guided tour shows you the best viewpoints and hiking trails near the cable car base and top stations, plus restaurants, local shops, cultural centres, etc.
Characters from the “Legend of Guayota” will be your guides on this tour, and you’ll learn about the volcanology, anthropology, and history of the National Park, while you’ll be also introduced to the indigenous Guanches, Tenerife’s earliest inhabitants who worshipped the Teide volcano, and who believed its eruptions to be the expressions of the fury of the gods.
The section on trails at the top station offers detailed and essential information about the three emblematic trails that leave from Teide Cable Car top station and follow different routes across the volcano’s slopes. You can hike the trails at the same time as you learn about the most important and characteristic parts of the volcano.
The audio guide is fun and easy to use! You just need to use the booking code from your cable car + audio guide ticket to quickly and easily download the app and enjoy a complete contactless experience.
Want to know how the audio guide app works? We explain in this video. Follow the instructions to get the most from your visit to Mount Teide.
If you do not have a smartphone, you can receive a physical audio guide. In order to pick it up it is necessary to leave your passport/ID card or a deposit of €50.00 which will be returned to you when you return the audio guide. It’s important to remember that, by choosing this option, you’ll only have the audio guide to the trails at the top station.
Live the Teide Legend at the Teide “Science and Legend” exhibition!
The cable car ticket (except for the ticket for the ascent and the Cable Car at Sunset activity) includes free admission to the “Science and Legend” exhibition, which you will find at the Teide Cable Car Visitors’ Centre.

You will learn about Mount Teide’s last major eruption (around 1,000 years ago) which the indigenous Guanches probably interpreted as a fight between mythological deities—an explanation far removed from that which science now attributes to volcanic eruptions.
The characters of the legend of Guayota, both gods and humans, will show you their vision of the stages of the eruption that took place back then, and which formed the pylon at the summit of Mount Teide, known locally as “el tapón del Teide” [the Teide cap]. A magical story in which good and evil join in an epic battle. Along with the legend, you will be shown reliable data to illustrate the scientific interpretation of the eruption. Although the two perspectives may seem diametrically opposed, they are in fact closely connected.
In addition, you can have a great time at our Visitors’ Centre, where you can find brilliant mementoes of your visit to the legend of the Teide National Park at our official souvenir shop. And you can relax and enjoy a culinary experience with panoramic views of the National Park in Spain’s highest restaurant and snack bar, whose badge of identity is the distinctly Canary Island character of its food and drink.
If you book the cable car + audio guide ticket, the Teide Legend app is included with your purchase, and it features detailed audio recordings so you can enjoy the exhibition in any of the audio guide’s 8 languages.
